BIO INCINERATION
Start of operations | 2027/2028 |
Project partner | Solør Bioenergi |
Source | Biomass incineration |
Total CO₂ capture | 30,000 tpa |
Carbon Centric is planning a carbon capture plant at Solør Bioenergi's CHP plant in Kirkenær in Innlandet county. The energy plant uses discarded impregnated wood waste as an energy source, and the energy goes to the production of both process heat, district heating and electricity. The planned plant will capture approximately 30,000 tons of CO₂ annually – exclusively from biogenic sources.
This is what makes the project special: By capturing and permanently storing biogenic CO₂, we actively remove CO₂ from the natural carbon cycle, achieving real carbon removal. This provides the basis for producing carbon removal certificates (CDRs) that directly contribute to reducing the amount of CO₂ in the atmosphere.
In the spring of 2025, the project was granted support from ENOVA to conduct a study of carbon capture at the facility.
