Carbon Centric is developing a carbon capture plant at Solør Bioenergi’s combined heat and power (CHP) facility in Kirkenær, south-east Norway. The CHP plant operates on wood chips derived from end-of-life, non-recyclable treated wood, and supplies process heat, district heating, and electricity to nearby industries. The planned capture facility will remove approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually - exclusively from biogenic sources.
What makes this project unique is its contribution to genuine carbon removal. By capturing and permanently storing biogenic CO₂, we actively remove carbon from the natural carbon cycle, delivering real, measurable climate benefits. This forms the basis for issuing carbon removal certificates (CDRs) that directly reduce atmospheric CO₂ concentrations.
In spring 2025, the project was awarded support from ENOVA to conduct a carbon capture feasibility study at the site.
