BECCS Kirkenær passes Puro.earth's Preliminary Assessment

Carbon Centric's BECCS project at Kirkenær has completed Puro.earth's Preliminary Assessment – an important step on the road to certification of permanent carbon removals.

The assessment was carried out by Puro.earth, one of the world's leading standards for engineered carbon removal, and confirms that the project's design, monitoring plan and life cycle assessment are structured in line with the methodology's requirements. The facility thereby meets the minimum criteria for future listing as a supplier with Puro.earth.

The carbon capture facility will be established at Solør Bioenergi's energy recovery plant at Kirkenær and will capture approximately 30,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year. The CO₂ will be transported to permanent geological storage, and the project will thereby generate carbon dioxide removal (CDR) certificates.

The Preliminary Assessment comes shortly after the four-year carbon removal agreement with DNV. Together, these milestones reduce project risk and strengthen the project's maturity ahead of final audit and execution.
