From idea to Norway's first full-scale carbon capture plant
Carbon Centric was founded on one conviction: that carbon capture from biomass is one of the few technologies that can actually remove CO₂ from the atmosphere, permanently and verifiably.
Today we operate the Rakkestad plant and are developing new projects.
The partnership with Østfold Energi on carbon capture at the Rakkestad plant begins.
Enova funding is secured for the Rakkestad project.
Carbon Centric AS is founded.
A geotechnical site survey is carried out at the Rakkestad site.
A CO₂ offtake agreement for liquid CO₂ is signed with Linde Gas AS.
A wastewater handling agreement is signed for the plant.
FEED (Front End Engineering Design) for the Rakkestad plant is carried out.
The Norwegian Environment Agency grants the plant's emission permit.
Energy integration between the capture plant and the waste plant is finalised.
The board makes the final investment decision (FID). The Rakkestad plant is ready for construction.
Commissioning of the plant begins.
Rakkestad CCU is commissioned. Norway's first full-scale carbon capture plant from waste is operational.

What we believe in
We publish capture figures in real time and say plainly what is operating and what is still a plan. Trust is built with facts, not slogans.
We only sell carbon removal that is verifiably permanent. CO₂ that is to count as removed must go into the bedrock and stay there.
We build on waste and biomass that is already being burned in Norway and the Nordics, with our own operations team and geological storage in Northern Europe. Every tonne can be followed from chimney to store.
