Rakkestad CCU is Carbon Centric's flagship facility and one of the world's first full-scale carbon capture plants at a waste incineration facility. The plant captures CO₂ from the flue gas at Østfold Energi's waste-to-energy facility in Rakkestad. The CO₂ is purified to food-grade quality and delivered as liquid CO₂ to Linde Gas AS. The amine technology was selected after a thorough technology evaluation and provides stable and efficient capture. The project is supported by Enova and gives Carbon Centric valuable operating experience that forms the foundation for the whole portfolio. Rakkestad is a CCU plant: the CO₂ is used, not stored, so the plant does not deliver carbon removal. The removal comes from the storage projects, starting with Kirkenær.
