BECCS SKOGN
Total CO₂ capture | 100,000 tpa |
Source | Biomass incineration |
Project Partner | Norske Skog Skogn AS |
Start of operations | Estimated 2028-2029 (In planning) |
Carbon Centric is planning a carbon capture facility at Norske Skog Skogn's paper mill in Levanger municipality, one of Europe's largest producers of newsprint. The planned capture facility will capture approximately 100,000 tonnes of biogenic emissions per year, which mainly comes from steam production by burning sustainable biomass. By capturing carbon that already exists as part of the natural carbon cycle, it can either be used as a valuable resource for other businesses, or stored permanently and form the basis for the production of carbon removal certificates (CDRs), which contribute directly to reducing the amount of CO₂ in the atmosphere.
